Brooklyn (Kings County) Supreme Court is located at 320 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. It is easily accessable by all Brooklyn bound trains that stop in downtown Brooklyn. All Brooklyn felony criminal cases are handled in this building. This is also where the Brooklyn Grand Jury sits and decides if a case should be indicted or not. If you have a pending felony case, your case will be heard in one of the courtrooms in this building. Each courtroom is called a Part. This is court jargon to identify which judge will hear the case. Cases will stay in these parts and go through all of the legal procedures until they are ready for trial.
Once a case is ready for trial, it will be sent out to a trial judge who will actually conduct the trial. A defendant may chose to have his/her case heard by a judge or jury. If you must go to court here, make sure to arrive early. You must first go through metal detectors and clear security before you are allowed to enter the court room. You should arrive at the courthouse at 8:30am to make sure you can eget to your courtroom on time. Also make sure not to bring anything that can be seen as a weapon or that may raise the interest of security. Always dress conservatively and be respectful to court staff and security when they ask for your assistance. Once you enter the courtroom, do not speak, this will get you ejected from the courtroom.
